Parent Bulletin 5

Welcome to Term 2 from the Principal
I would like to welcome our students and their families back to Strathmore for the beginning of Term 2. I trust that families have had an enjoyable holiday.
1. Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences
As communicated in the newsletter last term, the decision has been made that Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences scheduled for 26 April are to run via video conferencing. Information will be communicated to the school community in the near future. Students are not required to attend school on the 26 April and are expected to be active participants in the conversations about their learning with their parents at the conferences. We ask that students complete the Student Reflection and Planning sheet on page 11 of the 2024 Student Diary in preparation for the conferences.
2. Professional Learning Program – 2024
Moving forward, Strathmore Secondary College aims to build on the foundations that the Visible Learning framework has provided with a deeper focus on instructional excellence.Specifically:
- All staff will continue embedding learning habits in classrooms.
- All staff will also continue to strengthen the alignment of learning goals, success criteria, learning habits and assessments.
- Teachers and students will work together to focus on high impact instructional practices and processes that amplify learner agency that builds students’ capacity to drive their own learning.
- School leaders will engage in skilful coaching conversations to support ongoing improvement of educator practice.
- School leaders will also engage in ongoing cycles of evaluation-data gathering, analysis and monitoring of progress and impact.

Food Studies
Year 12 students were learning about the social and emotional role food plays in our lives. Social occasions can influence our food choices and sharing food creates connectedness with one another.
This week the Year 12s made lemon meringue tarts, although they are discretionary foods and therefore not recommended to eat daily, it allowed the students to share their cooking with others to build connectedness.
