Year 7 Parent Meet and Greet Invitation

Dear Parents and Carers, I trust that your child had an enjoyable experience at their respective Junior School orientation camp. Our Junior School Coordinators were extremely proud and impressed with the way the Year 7s conducted themselves. There were many examples of students getting out of their comfort zones to try new things, challenge each other and support their peers. As a further part of the secondary school transition, I would like to invite all year 7 parents and carers to an informal ‘meet & greet’ on the college campus on the evening of Friday the 17th of March from 4.30 - 6pm. The evening will begin outside the Burnet office in F Block where some light refreshments will be provided. From there, each team will travel to their own space with their respective Team Leader to meet other parents from your child’s team and provide you with an opportunity to speak to your child’s coordinator. I hope that this occasion can be used to reflect on your child's transition into secondary college, celebrate a successful orientation camp and have an opportunity for you to meet the Junior Coordinators face to face.
Year 7 Parents should refer to the Compass post on Tuesday the 7th of March for the invitation link.
Ms Jillian English & the Junior Teams

International Student Program Homestay

The International Student Program has been running at Strathmore Secondary College for over 20 years. Students are enrolled from Years 10 - 12, ranging from 15 to 18 years of age.
We provide homestay to these students while they are enrolled at the school. Length of stay can vary from one to three years. Study Abroad students enrol at Strathmore Secondary College for 3 to 12 months. As of January 2023, students pay $320 per week for accommodation and 3 meals a day. This money does not have to be declared on a tax return as it is considered “reimbursement” not income.
We are looking for families that can provide a safe, comfortable and caring environment whilst the students are studying at Strathmore.
If you are interested in becoming a Homestay family please contact Jan Maas, Homestay Coordinator on 0414 863 047 or Cathy Di Battista, International Student Manager, on 0417 301 835 to discuss further.

Observational Drawing

Students in the Year 9 Observational Drawing class have been working hard to develop and refine their ability to draw a range of objects realistically.
They have explored line, form, colour, proportion and tone in graphite pencil, oil and soft pastels and, most recently, charcoal. Embracing the mess and immediacy of the medium, students created large gestural drawings of a mannequin and scarf. Each work, like the students, had its own style.

Intermediate Girls Volleyball

On Tuesday the 7th of March, the Intermediate Girls Volleyball team played in the Moonee Valley Division first round against Sirius College, Essendon Keilor College and Rosehill Secondary College.
First up was Sirius Secondary College and whilst Sirius won the first set, the girls managed to come back and win the next two sets. Next, the girls played EKC and again managed to win this match in a very close three-setter. This brought the girls to the semi-final match of the day against EKC's second team, in which they won in straight sets. The girls then found themselves in the grand final against Rosehill Secondary and their winning streak did not end here. The girls won the grand final in another very exciting three-set match, which was an amazing result!
The girls played so well together and demonstrated exceptional teamwork skills. A special mention to Olivia Speechley and Evie Michael for their exceptional serving, Cady Jacobson, Amber Dulhunty and Nina Kapoulitsas for their excellent defence work on the court, as well as Matilda Fitzpatrick and Mikayla Patterson for their work at the net.
The girls had such a fun day and put in such a great effort! They should all be very proud. We are looking forward to the next round.

Burnet & Napier Orientation Camp

The 2023 Burnet & Napier expedition to Camp Wilkin at Anglesea set off this year on the 1st of March with three buses full of eager campers. The Year 7 students were divided into six activity groups and took part in high ropes, rock climbing, surfing and mountain biking, accompanied by our Year 10 leaders and a selection of the college’s most fearless, adrenaline-craving teachers. The activities were ‘challenge by choice’ and it was inspiring to witness many students stepping outside of their comfort zone and conquering some personal fears by trying their hand at new experiences. Many got to hang ten for the first time with the Go Ride A Wave surf school, navigate the Anglesea River by bike or conquer their fear of heights. The Burnet & Napier teams would like to thank and congratulate all Year 7 students who attended for the manner in which they conducted themselves during our stay in Anglesea, the Year 10 leaders who did a fantastic job assisting students and staff, and the staff below who assisted in making the Orientation Camp a success and a joy. We are looking forward to sharing some of our student’s experiences at the Year 7 Parent Meet & Greet next Friday evening. Thank you:Ms Ferraro, Ms Gallagher, Ms Davey, Ms Barker, Ms McErlain, Ms Wunhym, Mr Matthews, Mr Forrest, Mr Hansen and Ms Glogovac. Moonee Valley Division Swimming

On Thursday the 9th of March, we had 35 students represent Strathmore in the Moonee Valley Division Swimming sports.
All students showed a great level of effort throughout the day and there were some outstanding individual performances from Oli Moxon, Ollie Salmon, Ty Davis, Matthew Moncur and Cassandra Biscocho, who also broke a record on the day!
Our relay teams were the strongest of all the schools with 11 of our teams placing 1st and making it through to the next round of competition.
Thank you and congratulations to all the students who came along on the day - you demonstrated excellence and represented Strathmore in such a positive way! The next round of competition will be on the 30th of March in Geelong.
