Great Cycle Challenge to Fight Kids' Cancer
This October, the Fernando Brothers are taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer, because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
And so we are riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer. Please support our challenge by making a donation through our fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.Together, we can save little lives. Thanks for your support. Year 12 General Maths Revision Lectures
During week 3 of term 4, the year 12 General Mathematics teachers ran revision lectures to help prepare students for their upcoming exams.
The lectures covered the four main modules for General Maths and were completely voluntary for students to attend.
Student attendance was impressively high with students filling the VSSEC lecture theatre for all four sessions which exceeded all expectations and is a credit to those students who attended.
The lectures were of an extremely high standard with students being very appreciative of the extra effort the teachers put in to get them ready. Most of the students in the cohort attended some (or all) of the lectures which will be great preparation for their General Maths Exam.
A massive thank you and congratulations to both the teachers of Year 12 General Maths (Ms Trang, Ms Palmarella, Ms Norrish, Mr Beavis, Mr Bates and Mr Manning) who delivered the lectures and the students who attended.

Galvani-Strathmore Exchange
We (Mark and Andrea) would both like to thank the Strathmore staff, families and students for the unforgettable experience in October this year. The 3-year covid induced hiatus in the programme paled into insignificance as the warmth and hospitality of the host teachers and families breathed new life into the exchange. We feel privileged to have been part of this and look forward to welcoming you to Galvani with italian hospitality next April. The best way to describe this experience, however, is with the words of the true protagonists- the students:
"growing up as an only child i never knew how important having a sibling was, but during only 2 weeks darcy and maj made me realise what sisterhood really meant"
"I loved going to Melbourne, it has been a wonderful experience. Starting from the people, who will make you feel at home, no matter which house you go to."
"I'm really grateful for the opportunity I have been given, I had the possibility to do and to experience things completely new to me, things that probably I would have never done in a different context.I wouldn't exchange the moments I spent in Melbourne for anything."
"i feel like i'm still there"
"i personally loved this trip to Aystralia because it wasn't just a trip to visit a place it was more like an experience. I love the fact that i've got an amazing new family and i really got along with them and for 2 weeks i became part of their lives. It was very amazing because i got to live their lives, see differences, similarities and what it's like to live in Australia. Because it was such a profound experience at first it was a little hard but that is what made it so special and in the end i was really, really sad to leave them."
"what i loved so much was....the people. I didn't expect all of them to be so caring and gentle, it was really nice talking with everyone.....I am definitely going to see it (Austrlia) again..... I love the programme, the possibilities it offered, the fact that the schoolallowed us to live in asutralia, to feel as if we were typical ozzies, going to school, living with the families, feeling a part of something bigger.... I called Australia my home for 2 weeks... because the people made me feel at home."
"Going to Melbourne changed my life. The family I found made me feel loved and truly appreciated. The people I met thanks to this trip I will carry forever in my heart. The moments shared, the laughter, the tears, everything was unforgettable. I really hope to be able to return one day, even if I am aware that it will never be the same again."
"Melbourne is an amazing city, entirely different from Bologna, but at the same time, it's filled with small similarities to our everyday life. During these two weeks, I met people who will always hold a special place in my heart, along with all the experiences I've had the opportunity to enjoy. I will forever be grateful for this trip, and I look forward to returning to this beautiful city one day."
"The trip has been a wonderful experience. The city with all its thrilling places and attractions. The people I met that made me feel loved and part of a family.A new culture, lifestyle, country that changed my view of the world. It really has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to returning to Melbourne in the future."
"This unique experience allowed me to connect to a new world and way of living. Everything from the activities to the hospitality of the host family made it precious and memorable"

THANKYOU! GRAZIE!
For the past 10 years Strathmore Secondary College has had the pleasure of hosting Italian students from our sister school in Bologna, Italy. From the 30th of September to 14th October, we had 21 students, and 2 teachers take part in our Italian Exchange Program. Our Italian guests were welcomed to Melbourne and our school by our Principal, Mrs Jillian English. The Italian students took part in science-based workshops at VSSEC, day trips to Phillip Island, The 12 Apostles and Narana Aboriginal Cultural Centre. Other activities included guided walks through the city and gardens of Melbourne and classroom-based activities here at school. All 21 students were billeted to families within our school community so they could have an opportunity to experience a typical “Australian family” way of life.
The program owes its success to the generosity of Strathmore parents and students who host an Italian student each year, and to the hard working and dedicated Italian teachers and VSSEC staff. Therefore, we would like to extend a warm thanks to the following families and students who made the Italian Bologna Exchange not only possible but a memorable experience for everyone involved.
