Student Career Action Plan:
In preparation for your annual SSC Course Selection, all students in Years 7-11 are required to complete a Career Action Plan, via the Department of Education and Training (DET) ‘My Career Portfolio’ online portal. Completing a Career Action Plan helps us to:
- Better understand who we are
- Set future goals
- Work out how to achieve our goals
Student instructions for logging into the ‘My Career Portfolio’ portal and completing the Career Action Plan are as follows:

2. Develop your Career Action Plan
- Start with the ‘About Me’ section. Fill this section with information about yourself.
- Next complete ‘My Subjects’. Fill this section with your subject information.
- Next complete ‘My Strengths’. Fill this section with your skills.
- Finally complete ‘My Future’. Fill this section with your goals and career plans.
3. Review, Update and Share
You can review your Career Action Plan and update any information you’d like to change. You do this by selecting ‘Edit’, or if you haven’t completed your Career Action Plan you can select ‘Resume My Plan’.
You can also download your Career Action Plan as a .pdf and print it out.
4. Upload Files and Bookmark Links
You can upload files in the ‘My Files’ section of My Career Portfolio.Things you might upload include your Morrisby Online report (Year 9), resumes, examples of school work you are proud of, or awards you have won.
To upload a file, click ‘Upload a file’, select the file and name the file. You can also bookmark website links by clicking ‘Bookmark link’.
5. Explore Universities, TAFE’s and Other Career Resources
When you are developing your Career Action Plan, you can use the links in the ‘Career Resources’ section to help you explore information about the world of work, and about courses and careers that you are interested in.
Simply browse the section and find the links that are useful to your Career Action Plan. SSC Course Selection Resources:

VTAC is an independent shared admissions service facilitating access to tertiary education and further study opportunities and pathways for learners in Victoria and beyond.
Use VTAC to search for tertiary education courses of interest by first clicking on the ‘Course Search’ tab on the VTAC home page. From there, enter in ‘keyword/s’ related to courses of interest. You can check out the ‘VCE Prerequisite Explorer’ filter option, to see what course options your potential VCE subject choices could lead to. REMEMBER that tertiary courses may have specific PREREQUISITES that you will need to fulfil in order to make an application (in Year 12), so be sure to look at the ‘course requirements’ tab when exploring a particular course of interest, to see what (if any?) prerequisites are required? You will also find some helpful information within VTAC Guides – various options are listed on the VTAC homepage, including:

Tertiary ‘Experience’ Days/sessions – Institutions often host ‘experience days’/sessions for students (likely for current Year 12’s) during the Term holidays. Check institution websites for more information and dates.
Tertiary Open Days – These are usually held annually in July/August. Check institution websites for more information about their programs and upcoming dates. These Open Days give you a chance to ask questions about courses of interest, speak to current students/lecturers, explore the campus, check accommodation facilities and more. Attending Open Days would be most beneficial to students within Years 10-12.
SSC Careers News newsletters – posted on Compass throughout the year (usually fortnightly).

These Open Days give you a chance to ask questions about courses of interest, speak to current students/lecturers, explore the campus, check accommodation facilities and more.
